The Mission of FFPRI (Meaning of Existence)
To contribute to sustainable development of the world blessed with rich and diverse forest, through researches on forest, forestry and forest products
Vision (Ideal Situation of FFPRI to perform its Mission)
To be a leading forest research organization vital to Japan's future
Tasks (Specific roles to achieve the mission)
    To contribute substantially to:
            1. Development of science and technology
            2. Implementation of administrative measures
            3. Stimulation of social activities
            4. Promotion of international cooperation

Brief history of the institute

1905  Inaugurated as a forest experiment unit of the Forest Bureau in the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce at Meguro in Tokyo

1910   Renamed the Forest Experiment Station, Forest Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce

1947  Reorganized as the Forest Experiment Station, Forest Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture by unifying the forestry experiment organizations under an integrated forestry administration

1978  Moved from Meguro Ward in Tokyo to Tsukuba Science City

1988  Reorganized and renamed the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI)

2001  Established as an incorporated administrative agency, as part of administrative reform Started the first midterm plan (2001-2005)

2005  Marked the 100th anniversary of its establishment

2006  Started the second midterm plan (2006-2011)

2007 FFPRI and Forest Tree Breeding Center integrated.

2008 Succeeded a part of business of 'Japan Green Resources Agency'
