IUFRO-J NEWS No. 120

IUFRO-Japan News No. 120 will provide readers with information on the International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) and the latest activities of IUFRO's Special Programme for Development of Capacities (IUFRO-SPDC). It also reports about the 2016 event "FORCOM/SFEM/2016 - Sustainable Forest Management in a rapidly changing world: Philosophy and Technology for forest resource management" which was held in Tsu-City. It also gives an outlook on important future iufro events, such as the 125th IUFRO Anniversary Congress to be held in Freiburg, Germany, in September 2017.

IUFRO-J NEWS No. 119

This issue of IUFRO-Japan News will give you an overview of the latest major events held by IUFRO: the IUFRO Asia-Oceania Regional Congress, the IUFRO Division 3 Doctoral Student Conference, Abies 2016 and others. It highlights the launch of the latest GFEP Global Rapid Response Report on "Illegal Logging and Related Timber Trade - Dimensions, Drivers, Impacts and Responses" at CBD COP13 in Cancun, Mexico. At the same conference, IUFRO-SPDC was involved in the Forest Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Day at CBD COP13 and organized a session there. IUFRO Executive Director Alexander Buck explains in an article how the implementation of the CBD Aichi Biodiversity Targets is to be advanced.

IUFRO letter of appreciation to a IUFRO-J member / IUFRO officeholder

The highly successful Pine Wilt Disease Conference 2016, which was held in Seoul, South Korea, 29 August - 02 September 2016, was mainly organized by Dr. Nakamura-Matori, a IUFRO-J member of the Forestry and Forest Product Research Institute (FFPRI) and the Coordinator of IUFRO 7.02.10 Pine Wilt Disease. A letter of appreciation from Alexander Buck, IUFRO Executive Director, and the proceedings of the conference can be downloaded from here.

Multilinguistic IUFRO brochure was distributed at IUFRO Asia Oceania Regional Congress

The new IUFRO brochure includes introduction of IUFRO activity in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The translation into Japanese was contributed by IUFRO-J secretariat. IUFRO-J NEWS No. 118

In IUFRO-Japan News No. 118, Alexander Buck, the Executive Director of IUFRO, introduces the reader to the long-standing history of IUFRO's collaboration with FAO, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Another article reports on the recently held Workshop on Biological Invasions in Forests which was organized by the IUFRO Task Force on Forests and Biological Invasions. And the newsletter shares the latest news on the IUFRO Regional Congress for Asia and Oceania, which will start in about a month's time in Beijing, China.

Publication Alert: Special Issue, the Journal of Environmental Radioactivity

This special issue is based on the papers/presentations made during the session which was held by IUFRO Working Party 8.03.07 - gRadioactive contamination of forest ecosystems: from Chernobyl to Fukushimah, during the XXIV IUFRO World Congress in Salt Lake City, USA, from 5-11 October 2014. One of the session organizers was Dr. Masamichi Takahashi, IUFRO-J, member at Forestry and Forest Product Research Institute (FFPRI), who focused on gCharacteristics of initial deposition and behavior of radiocesium in forest ecosystems of different locations and species affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident".
