Home > Plus tree and projeny trial
Update:April 15, 2019
Main content starts here.
Main target species in Hokkaido Breeding Region are todomatsu (Abies sachalinensis), aka-ezomatsu (Picea jezoensis), karamatsu (Larix kaempferi, including hybrid between L. gmelinii and L. kaempferi) and sugi (Cryptomeria japonica).
Plus trees, which were showing superior phenotype in forests, had been selected from all over Hokkaido.
The progenies of the plus trees are tested in progeny trials.
The objectives of progeny trials are 1) to confirm the genetic performance of progeny of plus trees, 2) to select better genotypes (ie, families) among the plus tree populations, and 3) to select superior individuals from the progeny as next generation plus trees.
In Hokkaido breeding region, progeny trials are established, managed and examined under collaboration between two organisation, Hokkaido Regional Breeding Office, Forest Tree Breeding Center, Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute and Forestry Research Institute, Hokkaido Research Organization.
