Commentary |
The "Ao" in "Aogera" (Japanese green woodpecker) "means" green. Males and females are almost identical in coloration, but males have a red forehead and rear of the head as well as jawline. while females have only a red rear of the head and jawline. They perch on trunks and branches, peck at bark, and search for insects and spiders. |
