English name |
Sika deer |
---|---|
Scientific name |
Cervus nippon |
Distribution |
They inhabit forests, surrounding grasslands, etc. |
Commentary |
They eat rice grass and other grass, as well as tree leaves, nuts, bamboo shoots, etc. In recent years, the proliferation of deer has raised the issue of damaged trees in plantations and the destruction of forest floor vegetation. Deer were first spotted in Tama Forest Science Garden around 2013. Barriers have been installed to prevent them from intruding into urban areas and surrounding locations. |
