Commentary |
A small evergreen shrub that grows in evergreen forests to a height of 30-100 cm. The leaves are thick in texture and have wavy serrations in the edges. White flowers 8 mm in diameter are attached to the ends of the branches in and splay out in various directions. The fruit is drupe, 6-8 mm long and ripens red. Its name has lucky connotations in Japanese, so in addition to being used as a garden tree, it is also used as a New Year decoration. |
