Commentary |
A perennial plant that grows in well-lit areas. The roots spread from the knots in stems that crawl along the ground. The very similar-looking mock strawberries grow in somewhat shadier areas at the forest edge. The flower stalke extends from the leaf axil and bears a single yellow flower. Just as with strawberries, the flower receptacle becomes and round and swells, and the fruit appears on its surface. |
