Commentary |
A wintergreen perennial plant that grows in the mountains. It produces leaves in the fall and long sporophylls in the winter. The short petiole (basidiophores) is shared by the strobili and sporophyll. The leaf blades of the strobilus are deeply divided into three or four feathery lobes and are nearly pentagonal. The end of the row piece is round. The serrations on the leaf margins are inconspicuous. The sporophylls are shed after the spores are released. |
